Alongside reaching a reported milestone of 500 million monthly active users, social platform Threads announced that its Communities feature is leaving beta and that it’s introducing several tools to give people more control over what they see. These updates aim to make Communities easier to find, simpler to join, and more useful for group conversation and discovery.
Meta says Threads will add a dedicated Communities Hub directly in the main menu, making it faster for users to discover and access communities that match their interests. The company is also rolling out a Community Progress tracker, which shows when a trending topic is approaching official community status. This visibility helps members and potential members see which discussions are growing and may soon become fully formed communities.
In addition to navigation and visibility improvements, Threads is expanding its Community Champions recognition program. That program highlights active contributors and organizers who help drive healthy engagement and foster constructive discussion inside communities. Threads is also adding native-language tags for markets such as Japan, Korea, and Taiwan to improve discoverability and moderation of local-language communities.
Looking ahead, Threads confirmed that Live Chats will be expanded to more communities in the coming weeks. The Live Chat enhancements include co-hosting capabilities, enabling multiple moderators or community leaders to run a session together. A new tool will also let hosts highlight key moments from Live Chats directly to the main feed, helping important conversations reach a broader audience and extending the life of timely discussions beyond the live experience.
Another notable addition is “Your Algo,” a temporary feed-adjustment tool that gives users quick, time-limited control over their algorithmic preferences. With Your Algo, users can request more or less of specific topics for one, three, or seven days. The change temporarily adjusts the content mix delivered by the algorithm without requiring permanent changes to account settings. Meta says this feature begins rolling out to users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, enabling short-term tuning of an individual’s feed when they want to focus on particular subjects or take a break from others.
Taken together, these updates reflect Threads’ emphasis on community building and user agency. The Communities Hub and progress tracker make it easier to find and monitor growing groups, Live Chat improvements help leaders manage live conversation more effectively, and Your Algo gives individuals short-term control over what their feed surfaces. For users and community organizers, the new features should simplify discovery, moderation, and content promotion while offering more immediate control over personal timelines.
