Insta360 Spatial Video Update Arrives in US Soon

Following the opening of its first North American flagship in Times Square, Insta360 has announced a major software update that finally brings Spatial Capture to the Insta360 X6. The company says this capability will roll out in the United States on September 28. Max Richter, VP of Marketing and co‑founder of Insta360, highlights the company’s aim to broaden access to immersive creation:

Spatial creation should not be limited to people with specialized equipment or expertise… By combining the ability of a 360 camera to capture everything around it with a simpler 3DGS workflow, X6 makes it easier for anyone to capture not just a moment, but an entire place they can explore again.

The new Spatial Capture feature converts ordinary 360‑degree video into fully explorable 3D scenes using 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS). Traditionally, turning a real-world space into a navigable 3D model meant taking many photos or video passes from different angles and processing that material through complex, specialist software. The Insta360 X6 simplifies that workflow by recording every direction at once, allowing creators to capture an entire environment in a single take. After capture, Insta360’s cloud processing pipeline transforms the footage into an interactive 3D scene, typically within one to two hours.

Spatial Capture on the X6 supports recordings of up to two minutes per capture session. Those clips can be further trimmed and refined inside the Insta360 app, and the resulting 3D scenes are designed to be explored with simple, intuitive controls: touch gestures on mobile devices, a virtual joystick in the app, or by moving the device and using its gyroscope. Beyond navigation, creators can apply visual effects, craft guided camera paths for cinematic walkthroughs, and fine‑tune presentation elements to highlight details or emphasize storytelling moments.

One of the key advantages of this workflow is accessibility. By handling the heavy lifting in the cloud and automating complex reconstruction steps, Insta360 lowers the technical barrier for producing immersive, explorable environments. This encourages more people—travelers, real estate agents, event organizers, educators, and hobbyists—to experiment with spatial media without needing a dedicated photogrammetry rig or deep technical knowledge.

Export and sharing are also streamlined. Insta360’s Spatial Capture output can be published as interactive web experiences that require no downloads or specialized viewers: recipients open a link and can immediately explore a scene in their browser. This makes it straightforward to distribute immersive memories or showcase spaces in a way that’s engaging and broadly compatible across devices.

In addition to bringing Spatial Capture to the X6, Insta360 says the same feature will be released for the X5 and X4 Air models, expanding the number of devices capable of producing explorable 3D scenes. As the company extends this functionality across its product lineup, more users will be able to combine the convenience of 360 capture with the immersive potential of 3DGS, making it easier to relive, share, and present full environments rather than single moments.

For creators focused on storytelling, education, property marketing, or simply preserving memories, this update represents a meaningful step toward mainstream spatial media creation. Rather than assembling a complex toolkit, users with an Insta360 device can focus on composition and context, knowing that the camera and cloud service will convert their captures into interactive, explorable scenes. The result is a quicker, more approachable path from capture to shareable 3D content.
