Google has taken a big step toward simplifying travel planning by turning its search bar into a more capable travel assistant. Starting this week, the company is expanding AI Mode to include flight price tracking, points and miles pricing, and in-search hotel booking. These features let you plan, monitor, and book much of a trip without leaving the search results, reducing the need for multiple browser tabs and apps.
If you’re used to juggling airline websites, comparison sites, and hotel pages, the new tools aim to streamline that process. AI Mode builds on Google’s recent interactive planning features, consolidating itinerary research and booking tasks into a single conversational experience. Instead of hopping between dozens of tabs, you can describe your travel dates and preferences to the AI and get organized options, price alerts, and booking choices all in one place.
Google Will Now Watch Flight Prices for You
Google Flights has offered fare tracking for years, but that capability now lives inside AI Mode for a more conversational experience. Tell the AI where and when you want to fly and it will pull current fares from hundreds of sources. The system aggregates pricing from more than 300 airlines and travel sites to present a broad view of available options, then helps you assemble a complete itinerary when you’re ready to book.
If you prefer to wait for a better deal, AI Mode can actively track the flight for you. After you confirm a route and dates, Google will notify you by email if prices change, removing the need to manually recheck. The tracking feature is rolling out widely and is available in more than 180 countries, making it useful for international as well as domestic travelers.
A helpful twist: AI Mode can display flight and hotel costs not only in cash but also in miles or points. That makes it easier to evaluate whether using rewards is the smartest option for a particular booking. Initial partners for points and miles pricing include several major carriers and hotel groups, and Google plans to expand that list in the coming weeks.
Now You Can Book the Hotel, Too
In addition to tracking flights and showing reward pricing, AI Mode now supports hotel booking directly from the search interface. Describe your trip, specify amenities or preferences, and the AI will return a list of hotel options with key details like guest reviews, room types, and cancellation policies. When you find a hotel that fits, AI Mode can initiate the booking process for you.
Booking flows move you to a “Continue on Google” path linked to the hotel chain or booking partner where you select your room, review terms, and complete payment via Google Pay. It’s important to note the final reservation and customer service remain managed by the hotel or booking site; Google facilitates the booking experience but the partner fulfills the reservation and any related support.
Hotel booking is launching in the U.S. and is available in English initially. Early partners include well-known booking platforms and hotel brands, and Google is adding more partners over time. The goal is to make researching, comparing, and securing lodging faster and less fragmented for travelers.
Taken together, these updates bring several travel planning steps into a single conversational workflow: research, price monitoring, rewards evaluation, and booking. For users who value convenience and fewer open tabs, AI Mode’s integration of flights and hotels could significantly reduce the time and effort involved in assembling a trip. As more airlines, hotels, and booking sites join, the feature set should become even more comprehensive, offering travelers a cleaner, more integrated planning experience.
