Phone manufacturers have marketed their devices as “bezel-less” for nearly a decade, yet a narrow black border has always remained to mark the edge of the display. TECNO now claims to have closed that final gap with a new concept phone that it says achieves a true 0mm border. The company describes this as an industry first and plans to unveil the device at IFA 2026 in Berlin this September. If accurate, the design would redefine what many consider a bezel-less display.
TECNO says the breakthrough relies on what it calls “advanced internal stacking” and new display packaging techniques that remove the tiny rim of non-display material around the screen. Most current flagship phones reach roughly 90 percent screen-to-body ratio, while some models from Xiaomi and Honor edge past 95 percent by hiding the front camera. TECNO’s concept aims to go further by eliminating that visible border entirely, producing a display that appears to extend to the very edge of the phone’s chassis.
The company’s teaser material emphasizes a more immersive viewing experience without the distraction of a black outline. The absence of any visible bezel can make the screen look as if it has been digitally enlarged or photoshopped onto a smaller frame. TECNO also highlights improvements to edge touch sensitivity, a key consideration when the display reaches the device edges. Improved touch handling is necessary to prevent accidental inputs when the phone is held or gripped near its sides.
Beyond the cosmetic impact, a truly borderless display raises several practical design challenges. Engineers must balance structural integrity, antenna placement, and thermal management while maintaining reliable touch performance at the margins. Front-facing camera solutions and sensors also need to be integrated without reclaiming visible bezel space. TECNO’s description of internal stacking and display packaging suggests the company has pursued novel engineering paths to address these trade-offs.
TECNO has been down this concept road before
This bezel-less concept is not TECNO’s first ambitious exploration. The company has previously showcased several forward-looking designs at major trade shows. Earlier in 2026 it revealed an ultra-thin modular phone with magnetic snap-on accessories at MWC, and the year before it teased a tri-fold foldable form factor. TECNO has a pattern of developing concept devices as a way to test ideas and gather feedback: the Spark Slim concept started as a showcase before the company brought a related retail model to market. That history suggests TECNO may be willing to refine these experimental designs for commercial release if the engineering and market response align.
At the same time, concept demonstrations do not guarantee immediate availability. TECNO has not disclosed pricing, final specifications, or a release schedule for the bezel-less concept, and for now the phone remains a design exercise. If the device progresses beyond concept status, consumers will want to know how the company addresses durability, repairability, camera performance, and real-world touch sensitivity along the edges.
From an industry perspective, a successful 0mm border display could push other manufacturers to accelerate their own innovations in display architecture and packaging. Advances that allow displays to truly reach the device edge would affect not only phones but also tablets, smartwatches, and other devices that benefit from maximizing screen area. TECNO’s presentation at IFA 2026 will be an important milestone: observers will be watching to see whether the company demonstrates a working prototype under realistic conditions or a purely conceptual render.
Whether TECNO ultimately brings a bezel-less retail product to market remains uncertain. For now the concept points to the company’s ongoing focus on bold visual design and engineering experimentation. The IFA event in September should clarify which elements of the design are feasible and which remain developmental challenges. Until TECNO shares more technical details or a production timeline, the bezel-less concept will be best understood as an intriguing glimpse of what might be possible in future display design.
