Meta’s current Ray-Ban smart glasses only begin recording when you press a button or say “Hey Meta,” and a small LED indicator turns on to show recording is active. According to the Financial Times, a prototype called Meta Super Sensing Glasses would change that behavior. The prototype reportedly captures photos every few seconds and records audio continuously, without requiring a button press. That continual capture would allow Meta’s on-device AI to answer questions such as where you left your keys or to recall what someone said to you earlier in the day. The report also notes that the company has not yet decided whether the recording LED would remain active while this always-on mode runs.
Meta has not indicated when, or if, these features will ship. The company declined to comment on internal prototypes, telling the Financial Times it does not discuss unreleased hardware. A Meta spokesperson added that the company designs privacy protections into its wearable products from the start. Nevertheless, this prototype raises new questions because constant photo and audio capture introduces privacy and security trade-offs well beyond the existing mode that requires user initiation.

The technical benefits of continuous sensing are straightforward: constant photo capture and ongoing audio give AI models more context and memory to answer personal, time-based questions, perform hands-free recall, or offer contextual assistance.
